If so many new Pokemon can get unique abilities, so should some old ones. What are some fun or interesting ideas for unique abilities on existing mons that don't have them? Bonus pts for it being more about flavor than competitive

>Scarecrow (for Cacturne)
While on the field, opposing bird Pokemon cannot target this Pokemon and receive a passive debuff to their offenses while in play

>Fly Trap (for Carnivine)
Attracts Bug type attacks and takes no damage, instead lowering the attacker's Speed

When a Pokémon with 'Love Power' enters the battle, it causes Infatutation on all opposing Pokémon of an opposite gender. Pokémon of the same gender get confused instead. If a Pokémon with 'Love Power' uses 'Attract' or 'Captivate', it will work on Pokémon of the same gender.

Out of battle: If Luvdisc is the first member of the party (and is not fainted), it will force all encounters to be either male or female, and they will not change until you leave you remove Luvdisc from leading the party or change your current location.

While Luvdisc is the lead Pokemon in your party, all wild pokemon battled will be the opposite gender of it. So if you have a male Luvdisc, you'll only find female pokemon, and vice versa.

Idk why but I feel like focusing on Gen 3 bc they got the biggest screwjob from abilities: added when abilities were added and still mostly shit, no Kanto privilege, and they seemed to miss the recent "nostalgia" train for fixing old Pokemon (instead they just got a ton of now defunct Megas in Gen 6)

>Ever Revolving (Baltoy line)
Because this Pokemon is always spinning, it automatically clears hazards from its side of the field. It also ignores flinching or redirection (get it?!)

>Haunted Toy (Banette)
Until being KO'd, this Pokemon acts like it has the ability Pressure. If this Pokemon is knocked out, it then puts a Grudge on the attacker -- removing all PP from the move that KO'd this Pokemon.

>Lure Tail (Huntail)
Draws all attacks toward itself always

>Strain and Drain (Gorebyss)
All contact moves become draining attacks

>Abyssal Scale (Huntail and Gorebyss)
Fur Coat for these silly fish

No. What I meant is that, every time you enter an area where gendered Pokémon can be found, the game will choose one gender, and it will force all encounters to be of that particular gender until you leave the area or Luvdisc is not longer the first member of your party.
This will not apply to genderless Pokémon, or Pokémon with 0:100 ratios to either gender. Those will ignore it.

I think Cacturne should get a Ice Face-like ability, but instead it would be like a mirage of a cactus shaped thing that would become clear as Cacturne after being attacked, and setting a sandstorm or being sent out during a sandstorm would restore the effect, kinda like Ice Face in snow.

Origin Palkia
Sovereign of Space
Drops all opposing Pokemon's evasion by 4 stages on switch-in. Prevents traps like Stealth Rock from damaging Palkia.

Origin Giratina
Sovereign of Dimension
Physical Attacks from opponents will only cause half the damage in addition to full immunity from Normal and Fighting types. Prevents all Room moves from being activated whenever Giratina is on the field.

Oh, I like that. It wouldn't have to be limited to just that Pokémon either, since the lore for it doesn't really support what you are saying specifically. But you can call it something like "Desert Mirage"

Example: Kabutops gets hit with a Ground move and takes 25% more damage than normal, and when hit with a Grass move it takes ~5x damage instead of 4x. But when hit with a Steel move (neutral) it takes 20% less damage and when hit with a Bug move (resisted) it takes 75% less damage. When hit with Fire (double resist), it takes 0.25x0.25 damage or about 6% of the damage calc.

That latter one for the fossils actually sounds like a pretty good trade-off and kinda balanced.

Both the generation 3 fossils are fairly bulky statwise. Cradily has four weaknesses, three of them being pretty common. But it gets hit by neutral by pretty much everything else, so unless it's getting hit with these SE moves it will last a little bit longer. Armaldo fares even better though since it has three weaknesses and only two of them are common, then it has a bunch of neutral hits. So it would be safer to switch that thing in, boost up, then maybe go for a sweep. The Kanto fossils have the same type combo and have type effectiveness all over the map, so it won't benefit them as greatly but it will allow them to do their job better if you're willing to give up Swift Swim (which you shouldn't).

I know everyone and their mom likes the Rotom forms having Levitate because it helps their viability in competitive, but I would love for them to have other abilities. They all could just have pre-existing abilities but for the hell of it I will come up with a pre-existing ability and moves they all should get plus a unique ability because fuck it
