Behold, the one and only true chronology of the Pokémon games (scrapping stuff that happened in some way but isn't covered in a game like "how Team Galactic was stopped in Unova in the modern timeline")

Technically all games are their own timelines and can come after any other game (with the exception of White 2 always coming after White, never after Black, same but backwards with Black 2) but it would be needlessly complicated and dumb to divide them like that when you can just lump different versions together

You literally have SM letting you change from Sun universe to Moon universe with an ultrawormhole. Also in BW a guy in Opelucid gives you a battery if you bring a pokemon from another world to him, it has to be one from White in Black and one from Black in White

but if you still don't get it after this I will explain easily, we mean Scarlet is an universe and Violet is another one, they take place after Sword or Shield, and Swrod and Shield are also different universes that come from Sun and Moon, also different universes that come from etc etc. So you can get a massive branched timeline but that's fucking pointless so OP pic just has the games grouped together

Gen I started development in 1990 and finished in 1995, only being released in 1996. Originally Gen II took place 2 years later according to the Spaceworld 1997 demo (1995 > 1997), but the final game decided on 3 years and was released in 1999 (1996 > 1999). There is a general 90s vibe, the N64 exists in Gen II, Japanese children have mobile phones which is contemporary for the time.

Ruby and Sapphire came out in 2002.
FireRed and LeafGreen came out in 2004.
Emerald came out in 2004.
Diamond and Pearl came out in 2006.
Platinum came out in 2008.
HeartGold and SoulSilver came out in 2009.
Gen I and III are contemporary with one another, Gen II and IV are contemporary with one another. Gen I and II are still 3 years apart.
This is a separate timeline that can take place later in time. The player in Gen IV owns a Wii, so it must be at least 2006. You could say that it's 2007 (Wii came out in December 2006 in Japan and Diamond and Pearl were released internationally in 2007) and then place FRLG as 2004 when they came out. You could even say HGSS are 2006 since there seems to be precedent for the Red Gyarados event in DP and put FRLG as 2003 since that's when they were finished.

BW can be put as a general 2010, which is 4 years from HGSS and gives time for the Rocket Grunt to do his thing. And B2W2 is 2012.

Even then that's still fucking wrong because the closest thing to that are the gen 5 games and you can change certain elements of the game using keys in BW2 anyway.
