>Give the Unova starters the shitty elemental tackles from Gen 7 to immediately introduce type matchups>Make the second fights with Cheren and Bianca optional (Cheren should be by backtracking to Route 1 to inspect that side area, Bianca should be on that little ledge on Route 2)>Move Purrloin to Route 3, put Pidove, Roggenrolla, and Blitzle on Route 2 to allow the player to catch more Pokemon that have relevant type matchups>Have the gym blocked by a guy, if you have 3 Pokemon he lets you in, if you have 2 Pokemon he forces the moneky on you, and if you have 1 Pokemon (or less to prevent crashes) he tells you to come back with 2 Pokemon>The gym leaders now all fight you at once in a triple or rotation battle, depending on the versionFor a mild inconvenience we've dramatically improved a player's overall experience with the first gym. It's not like Gen 1 or 3 levels of a good Pokemon pool, and it is a little pandering in forcing you to have more of a team and fuck up some weird challenge runs, but it should get it into the players head that overleveling your starter is not the intended way to play as well as show off a battle type that was new at the time and hasn't been seen in over a decade by the time the remakes come out.
