Wouldn't Cheren have been the most logical choice to be Champion in BW2? Instead he's just reduced to being an easy fodder first Gym Leader

Yet she was still was in the anime? We're you not expecting them to adapt her game role in the feature? Whoever didn't think this would happen as soon as she left the screen was stupid. So yeah making the most hated companion a Champion was not smart.

Gotta agree with these two. Acting like her companion status didn't matter in the games is ridiculous. Journeys 1:1 of the games for some reason is the reason why she's a Champion

Did you think she became Champion in the games not because of the anime? Iris is a nothing character in the original games and I doubt the anime didn't impact this. The anime definitely belongs in a conversation about this, you're stupid if you believe otherwise.

It followed previous conventions.
Gen2: Last Elite Four member became Champion and eight Gym Leader is the Champion's cousin
Gen3: 8th Gym Leader becomes Champion
Gen4: 8th Gym Leader is planning to challenge the Champion until you come along

No, because that defeats the purpose of his arc. BW Cheren was a power hungry trainer that wanted to be champion just to be acknowledged as the strongest. Alder challenges his ideals by simply asking him what would he do afterwards, which puzzled Cheren. The point is that there's more to life than just pursing strength and you can use that newfound power to help others get stronger as well. This is what Cheren learned, which is why he became not only a gym leader but a teacher as well. Also, he's a first Gym leader depending on your badge level, which he mentions in-game.
