Belloseum should have either been stand alone or been part of a completely different family, it has NOTHING in common with any of the oddish family. My theory is that Belossum was planed to have a different prevo, but they didn't have room so they stuck it with Gloom, probably isn't true but it makes more sense than believing that the designer intended for this thing to be related to Gloom.

Sorry some Pokemon need to be complete shitmons so CHARIZARD can feel superior. But Bellossum has it better than most considering it gets Quiver Dance and Sleep Powder moves that other shitmons would kill for

My dude, most of the Pokémon I like are huge, unredeemable shitmons. It's not even funny.
Some Pokémon must suck, yeah, but they can also be buffed to at least have a slight battle chance. Luvdisc, Unown, Magcargo, Cherrim, Bellossom, Parasect, Delcatty and many many more have NOTHING going on for them.

The most insulting part is Game Freak keeps making more overpowered shit each so they clearly know how to make Pokemon viable, They could easily go back and buff shitmons but they would rather point and laugh at how useless some Pokemon are rather than fix them. Whatever the reason, it certainly doesn't feel like Bellossom was naturally created to be asplit evolution for Gloom. It could be because of Erika, or it could be something like "We want to add more evolution stones, so we have to put something in the game that actually uses the Sun Stone." I feel the same way about Politoed.

I feel the the same way abut scizor too, Honestly most of the Gen2 evolutions could have been their worked fine as their own families. (Only Slowking and Kingdra needed to evolve from Gen 1 Pokemon). its like Game Freak was so unwilling to let Gen2 be its own thing that they keep forcing connections to Gen1 even when it made no sense (basically the opposite problem that gen 5 had with)

Funny how they added evos and prevos to Pokémon who really didn't need them, when things like Kangaskhan, Tauros, Pinsir and the like were around.
It makes zero sense for such big things to evolve all willy-nilly.

let's be fair some gen 1 pokemon suck and they needed evolutions. Onix was outclassed by Golem and Rhydon pretty much. Onix evolves into something that gets the brand new Steel type. Steel/Ground is a better type combination than Rock/Ground defensively but Rock is overall a better offensive type than Steel so a Rock type Pokemon like Rhydon or Golem could still justify usage by having STAB rock moves even with a bad defensive type

What Pokemon didn't need them? Slowpoke, Weepinbell, and Gloom? Okay, sure. Those pokemon already had evolutions but you can't say Golbat, Porygon, Scyther, and Onix didn't need evolutions. You can't deny that any of those three pokemon were better off without them. Crobat is one of the fastest pokemon in the series and the Steel type is good for Scizor and Steelix. Porygon has shit stats in general.
