Tepig has the best line of the three, I actually don't understand why emboar is disliked. The only argument I hear is "too detailed", when infernape who came out a gen before has the same amount of detail and I never see anyone hate that mon.

Infernape got its boost by the anime, was good competitively and nobody was getting worn out by the concept yet. Emboar was a poster boy for ugly Pokémon plus being the 3rd Fire/Fighting in a row didn’t help its case. It’s unfortunate because design wise Emboar’s inspiration is smart. I’m also going to blame the anime as well because Tepig’s arc was just Infernape’s again but worse. I wonder if it being Fire/Dark would have soften the blow.

Coincidence, or did blaziken into infernape soil the fighting type for everyone? The other two brutally unpopular starters, meganium and rillaboom, are monotype, and I feel like that definitely plays at least a small part in that lack of popularity. But come to think of it, lucario and blaziken are really the only mega popular fighting types, aren't they?
Venu's being carried too hard by bulbasaur and being Kanto to really be part of the totally unloved starter conversation.

Honestly, the majority of the hate is just the typing. People also say it's ugly but it's meant to be orcish, so it's not going to be handsome anyway. Boars are also not very popular animals and most people's reaction to pigs is wanting to eat them rather than pet them. If it was a different typing, it would be less hated but it's not beating Goku monke in a popularity contest either way.
