The majority of people are easily influenced and shouldn't be used for a measure of Quality. Roxanne's original design was nice and simple and conveyed her personality subtlety and without being a caricature meanwhile the new design is trying too hard to force a personality onto her without a hint of subtlety it's too eccentric for a character who seems quite composed in the original games.

I actively miss the more casual less flamboyant character outfits from Gens 1-3. It kind of gave the idea that being a Gym Leader was a casual thing in this world like any other job. Hairstyles obviously not withstanding
Gen 4 and onwards were when everything got a little ridiculous.

I still don't understand who thought giving the rock type trainer stick legs was a good idea. You'd think Roxanne would be quite strong considering she'd logically have to go through caves to catch some rock type pokemon or in the case of the fossils go excavating but at the end of the day she shouldn't look so frail like her new appearance depicts her as because through all that physical activity she'd naturally develop stronger legs.
