Rotom is kinda weird where it feels like its in-universe role contributes to its importance. That is, its used in all kinds of technology in the Pokemon world.

Although, they didn't really start doing that more until the Rotom dex in gen VII, so maybe its plushies sold really well or something and they adapted to that. Wouldn't be the first time a Pokemon stuck around longer because the merch sold well.

More like trade, but tomato-tomato. Gen 2 is a dead end for transfering Pokémon so you had to trade from other Gen 3 games. There was a decently long dead period where there was no way to get a legit Ditto between the RS release date and the FRLG release date unless I'm mistaken.
