That feels kind of biased.

I can condede Japan because the game company is japanese and is expected to pander themselves. But if England is not going back because "already covered" there is no way France or USA are getting any more games because are covered as well

I think it's because Kalos is missing the entirety of southern France, the US has several other states that could be used and Japan also has several other regions, whereas England, Spain and Portugal have already been fully covered and there's nothing else to choose from there.

Hoenn too, kinda. It has certain Mexican elements on its mon designs, but it's extremely subtle and unnoticeable to the naked eye.

As a Canadian I don't see why other people want a region based on Canada. Culturally we're a pretty milquetoast country. Geographically we don't offer anything we haven't already seen plenty of in other Pokemon games.

Literally only Ludicolo.
If anything, Hoennmons are easily the most Japanese designs with how many Yokais they got inspired from (Shiftry, Mawile, Snorunt, Absol, Whiscash, Lombre, Dusclops, ...).

Times have changed, anon. Germany is the fourth largest economy of the world and the largest and most populous country in the EU. All regions so far are based on countries that are well-known to Japanese people and part of the global north/political west, and Germany fits these criteria very well. In addition, this negative perception isn't really a thing in Japan in the first place.

Japan is basically "the base" of all Pokémon, I feel. So designs that are intrinsically Japanese usually go under the radar. Like, see how you forgot about Makuhita and Hariyama.

There's no reason why game developers couldn't use the geographical likeness of an unpopular state's territories as basis for a fantasy world. It *would* get weird if in said fictional setting they had stuff like a South Korea or China-expy belonging to the same "Pokemon Nation" as past regions or something to that effect.

I think that when they don't want to risk to make a region based on a specific country for whatever reason, they just shoehorn references to it in other regions.
Thats why we have an indian elephant in Galar, Chinese themed legendaries in Paldea and Quaxly final evo is Brazil themed.
They favor regions they could visit themselves.
