Continue adding to it as gameplay progresses- add a diary feature where the game will automatically add memorable events (ie winning a contest or beating a gym leader, or maybe even stuff like surviving a last hit on 1HP and defeating the opponent afterwards) but the player can edit the journal to make those events either sound more in-character for their mon’s personality or delete them completely

I really don’t care if the first one fucks over competitive play or the second is annoying or whatever. For being a “roleplaying game”, Pokémon really requires you to do a ton of heavy lifting if you actually want to roleplay with it. Let me actually feel like I’m raising a team of friendly creatures, damn it, it’s really not that hard.
