You never knew there were other, far better studios working in 2D because your only interaction with 2D was pokémon. Pokémon suffered the same thing in the 2D days it does in the modern era - it lagged behind ALL its peers for visuals, because of how the studio was founded (a bunch of talented amateurs working to the vision of their friend). They didn't have shareholders, didn't have outside interests controlling them. They were 10 whobies having fun making games in a room.
Well, 26 years on, they still have that "10 lads in a room making games" mentality, only with 26 years experience knowing what sells to the audience they've always targeted, so funny they don't need to cater to you or your tastes to be successful.
