As much as I love the water starters, I wish they didn't always have to be something that actually hangs around water in the real world.
Like, would it kill them to do a water dog or something?

Harder to market and to fit in the anime, I guess. Can't really have a fish be a shouldermon, and they end up limited, battling only on water, like Misty's mons.

Except Tatsugiri ended up being one of the most beloved gen 9 mons, and it's literally just a fish, a very basic one at that. They could 100% do a cute little fishy starter if they wanted to.
