and currently on a Platinum replay I would say Cynthia does seem to have a disproportionate amount of popularity compared to how much she actually appears on screen. I won't say "it's because people jerk off to her" because I can't know that definitively, but my personal hunch is that it's actually the anime. Kinda like how Misty in her original games doesn't get much characterization.
