>>52883538>There's no reason to get a man to play an older woman when you can just hire an older woman.it's the exact same as one of the reasons for hiring a female to play a male: wanting a specific, unique cartoon voice that will sound a certain way to the audience. They want young boy protagonists to sound cool, not like actually 10 year old boys. They get adult women who can do that raspy but not deep voice so it sounds cool but not old, fun but not childish, etc.
maybe they didn't want this calm, working, older woman to sound like the rest of their squeaky anime girl voice lineup and the first person they had on call audition that sounded like what they wanted was this guy who usually makes pokemon noises. we already know the pokemon dub isn't hiring an all star cast with the upmost care. as mentioned in this thread Lillie's voice actor (and others) had little to no experience before becoming main characters on the pokemon anime.
there's plenty of reason for this to happen in this context and literally none of it has to do with this guy self identifying as non binary online.
