If that's the intention, it would be better to just remove or nerf all the features they added that made getting them easier. Shinny charm, Sparkling Power, Masuda method ditto, outbreaks, etc.

Okay so i looked it up; so basically Square Shinies are prioritized in anything that has "multiple rolls" which is only wild mons essentially.
Its a sign that you chained wild mons generally; though it can show up in other cases but it has weird low chance conditions.

Whereas "Stars" are prioritized in the first roll; which Raids and Breeding will always do.

Ones like Skarmory and Salamence are an improvement because their old idle animations were just fucking lazy and bad, but there was nothing wrong with most of those fliers and Lugia and Ho-oh in particular just standing there and flapping their wings look kinda stupid.

I would much rather have Skarmory and Salamence stand still (give Skarmory some bird-like movements in the head, Salamence some growls/roars), and then take to the skies or flap their wings for their attacks. They're gliding on still air for their current animations, it's ugly as shit.

Skarmory technically yes given it's not in Sv yet, but Salamence does at least flap it's wings now. Weird that they didn't also give it a ground set given Roaring Moon, a mon explicitly based off of it, has both flying and standing battle animations

Yeah. It's sad because it's really easy to believe they got rid of them *because* it was bugged. Like they went "Well shit, now that it isn't actually rare for all Pokemon, the point is moot so therefore we gotta throw it out." The concept was kind of cool even when you didn't go out of your way for it, it was just something extra to tell the player "Hey, this one is ultra special."

That being said, I did a bunch of Masuda Method in gen 6 and 7, and out of curiosity I checked their star/square sparkle via PKHeX and I had quite a handful of square shinies when I had never gotten any via breeding in SwSh. Now I'll never get to enjoy the ones that are square sparkles + being absent in SwSh like Delphox.

Forgot Skarm wasn't in, but hey maybe it will get a nice animation redo. Seeing Tropius and Scyther back to normal was nice, I didn't even realize that. I still have issues with the smaller birds and small-winged pokemon being in the air, but at least an attempt was made

"Cut can be used to destroy tall grass" is already an obscure mechanic. But in Pokémon Emerald only, the ability Hyper Cutter has the hidden effect of letting you cut down a 3x3 square rather than 1x1.

Square shiny "exist" since ruby and sapphire is just a kind of shiny from the algorithm that will show as square just because. You can also use rng tools to shiny hunt square shiny in the previous games to transfer them to SWSH

I remember back in the early X/Y days there was a bug that caused Pokémon to turn monochrome. Would be neat if they intentionally brought it back as something even rarer than shinies.

People don't like giving Scarlet and Violet any credit but they actually fixed that. Pokémon that can fly have both walking and flying animations now. And Pokémon that don't primarily fight in the air like most birds will have separate flying and ground battle animations. So Charizard, Heracross, and Hawlucha will all have separate flight and ground battle animations.

They'll have the same shiny animation, but it won't erase the bit of code that determines whether or not the shiny was square (and they can't, since it's been baked in since Gen 3). In case they bring it back, they'll be square once more.

Shit I was thinking of Garchomp. Garchomp has separate flight and ground animations for sure. Off the top of my head Scyther, Heracross, Hawlucha, Garchomp, and Flamigo have separate animations. If Charizard doesn't fuck it I don't know it's Gamefreak. I guess Dragonite, Charizard and Salamence are flying types so they always fly. Then again Flamigo and Hawlucha are on the ground.

From the look of it Wigglytuff, Gengar, Delibird, Tropius, Kricketune, and Oricorio have separate animations but I'm not autistic enough to check them all.

Yeah Wigglytuff and Scream Tail can be battled in the air. You can see it by activating a battle while it's in mid-air. That's how I know Garchomp can fight in the air. Those wild ones on the edges of the Area 0 crater barely have any room for them to land.

Charizard DOES have grounded attack animations, we saw them in the raid. It's just that they don't seem to play anywhere BUT the raid dens specifically (yes, even when you yourself use Charizard there it'll be standing. Though it starts flying after being KO'd once).

Square shinies are basically one or more bytes into the mon's data having a specific value, of course they """exist""" in the same fashion shinies """existed""" in gen 1. The combination of values to activate it is obtainable but won't do anything.

For me that doesn't really count.

It is immune to EQ because it's a Flying-type. And before you tell me I'm being dense, it's all about "type energies". Salamence could have no wings, be flying, and still be immune to EQ (see Dodrio). It doesn't have anything to do with the fact it's touching the ground or not.
