Mega form was pointless. It’s ability doesn’t change and its stat changes were too balanced to the point where the original holding an item was able preform most specific roles better. Meanwhile gen2 pokemon that actually needed megas (ie. the starters) got fuckall, because game freak is retarded.

Its not actually too hard to force a fake stalemate. If nobody is trying to its generally not happening but you will see stallouts in VGC.

But yeah its mostly animations; but recovery has done it in a few times.

It was propped up by specifically only the special attacker fire/flying mega because you could go giganigga in sun, but that was it. It loses 50% of its health to stealth rocks and does literally nothing outside of sun.

Actually I'm pretty sure the dragon dance set was pretty popular for Mega Tyranitar in both Gen 6 and 7, at +1 both 163 attack and 71 speed are pretty terrifying, and it has more rounded bulk than base Tyranitar which allows it to set up easier, whereas normal Tyranitar is mostly only durable specially in the sand (it's not quite as bulky specially due to being unable to hold a vest, but a dragon dance set wouldn't hold a vest anyways).

It was really just the one set, and there were more prolific dragon dancers, but it definitely did that specific job better than normal Tyranitar.

It's slow and has 7 weaknesses including a 4x one to a common type.
Losing Pursuit hurt it, losing the one good sand abuser finished it.
Still, with Tera around, the former issue is kinda mitigated, so you could probably use it with decent success, especially since it checks Chi-Yu.

Its Gmax move was super good at providing guaranteed damage to both opponents in doubles, and even then Venusaur with a very similar Gmax move was favoured a bit.
In singles nobody bothered with it, Gyarados was the better Dmax snowballer thanks to Moxie, superior stats and typing.

You aren't fast(not that scarf was ever a legitimate option; even Eruption on zards stat-line doesn't really make that work) and boots won't help you there, so your shitty bulk means you'll be swapping out of most encounters.
