Think of it like this: Pokemon is a massive franchise. Millions upon millions of people interact with it whether they play the games or not. A lot of folks grew up with it, and that was bound to result in things where, once people came or age, they started putting their kinks into the stuff they liked.
At that point it's just a numbers game. Fat fetishes aren't all that uncommon, and with how many are into Pokemon, it was bound to be a popular combination.
