Ground is a cool and original idea for an elemental type. They just don't much interesting things with it. We *still* don't have a mudmonster, just a bunch of mons baked in clay or hardened mud.

No, if there's one thing that shouldn't be changed it's the type chart. The 18 they have get the job done and keeping them consistent helps avoid confusion

Not a good reason. We might almost have used every type combo, but how many of those only have a single user? Each type combo could do with 3+ different mons before things start attacking up.

Not just a single user, but said single user is often a legendary/mythic or only gets the typing as part of a post-game only Form gimmick like most Megas (which bar a few are mostly post game only) or Rotom (who is either post-game himself or at least the appliances are.) Like who cares if Marshadow technically checked off Fighting/Ghost when you can only get him at level 60 post game? Even then there are typings like Ice/Flying which while Delibird technically exists, his stats are so bad as to make him unusable even in the story mode.

Ground is heinous for how nonsensical and overly broad it is. It either means "Earth" in which case Rock already covers it and indeed many of these are part Rock anyway. "Particulate" like sand or mud, "Vibrations and Sound", "Digs holes and Tunnels", or "Is big and stompy". Every Ground-Type Pokemon can, would, and should easily be slotted into another type.

This, also keep in mind that TPC has only ever introduced new types to help balance out the rest, and so far they've only added three of them during the series' complete history.

And it was always worse than just rebalancing moves/stats/etc.
STAB Outrage/Draco Meteor is OP? No don't nerf them or make it so practically every Dragon no-longer learns them like a sensible person, Better make a whole new type based entirely around being immune to Outrage and Draco Meteor! Which of course doesn't actually fix anything. Because STAB Outrage/Draco Meteor are still broken in relation to every other type, so you've just made it even worse for non-dragons since now in addition to be squeezed out of spots for dragons, they get squeezed out of even more spots due to the Fairies taking up slots to counter the Dragons.

TLDR; I don't trust Gamefreak with making a new type.
