oh yeah well I only figured out last year that ash's last name "ketchum" was supposed to sound like "catch 'em" from the pokemon slogan "gotta catch 'em all"

i didn't know that
most of the protags don't really have a name origin though do they
aside from gen 1/2 obviously and bw1 (hil is german for battle or summit, same for tou)
