>we wont do the battle frontier anymore, because kids these days have mobile games! >we wont do any more Colosseum games, even though they are fan favourites and highly after sought, because, well idk haha! Can someone tell me what's going through his brain? Why is it seemingly impossible to give their fanbase what they want? How is this guy in charge? I understand that Pokémon is a massive brand, and that they can lowball everything, because there will always be the next generation of kids that will play it for the brand alone, along with the hardcore whales that will buy anything with a Pokémon label. But is that really an excuse to downgrade and cut corners? Do they think that Pokémon is to big to fail, so that they don't have to put any effort into anything? I think Lego and The Pokémon Company are very similar. Lego started out as a kids brand, but as time went by, Adult fans started to become the main fambase and consumers, (AFOL/adult fan of lego). It took ages for Lego to realise this, but they eventually started to cater to their adult fanbase, as they became aware that AFOL's and collectors are the main consumers of Lego. Pokémon KNOWS Kanto is their most profitable region, because it's what ADULTS love. They just can't help themselves but pander to it. It's time for them to take the next step, based on this logic, stop downgrading the newer games and regions, and you you will see profits behind your compression, because EVERYONE likes quality.

But no indie game can compete with a franchise marketed like Nintendo.

Just ask Arcane/League of Legends and the Transformers/FIM/Thundercats/He-Man franchises.

>>52907497 First of all, Masuda was never in charge of side series Pokemon games, so he likely interpreted the question as "will there be a GF-made core series Pokemon game in the style of Colosseum/Stadium?", which obviously GF aren't gonna do.
Or am I just coping and what Masuda meant is "I'll never let any outside company make such a game"?

>>52911319 I'm unironically hyped for Palworld. It can't compete obviously because
A) 50% of the roster are pokemon bootlegs and
B) gen 9 sales.
They better go all in on the "with guns" stuff, then it could probably become popular as a diversion for pokemon fans. Since the premise itself is a parody it will never be able to compete with the original source in any serious capacity, regardless of multiplat status.

i think PLA is another game targeting that mid-teen demo and it's perfectly fine for what it is. i am not sure why you want anything else except for the fact you're either a pathetic onions-drinking manchild with bitchtits or you're throwing out cheap bait

Because Pokemon is the flawed giant that it is, everybody always goes "is THIS the Pokemon killer??!" which is such a ludicrous statement to begin with, and immediately sets the title up to be compared to Pokemon instead of just existing as a game on its own merits. If you set your expectations that high, nothing will ever successfully compete with biggest franchise in the world.

don't get me wrong I'm not going defend gamefreak because they're still leagues below most other devs, but the major reason pokemon derivatives fail (aside from the big issue of nowhere near the advertising and merchandise presence) is that they either try way too hard to be just another spin on pokemon or the games themselves have a crippling weakness that holds them back from being truly great
honestly the best shot at a pokemon killer would be a bigger studio rather than an indie dev, because they would actually have the money to sell their concept to the average consumer

>>52913441 Back then, Game Freak really WAS a small indie company. Getting new hires in the middle of a project is painful experience in terms of what they don't already know about it on top of being really expensive.
The issue isn't "they should have hired better programmers instead of letting their composer try to fill what they needed," it's that they should have been better programmers to start with if they were going to try to be professionals.

Its like apple, their brand name alone keeps them afloat. They hardly need to bother reinventing or making new stuff because why bother? Its waste time and effort.
Look how successful SV has been without all that stuff. And how its still successful with the dex cuts. They've proven that they can do just as fine without needing to do some massive great effort things.
Its also why there's so few new spin offs. What if a spin off was actually good and blew the main games out of the water? They don't want the bar raised so they'll make the spinoffs themselves or make sure they're distinct enough that no one could possible care.
