Anyone else feel like it was a mistake retconning animals?
It's nice that there's enough Pokemon now to really represent any part of the ecosystem, but real animals existing in tandem with Pokemon makes the Pokemon feel more special. Plus it then allows them to raise interesting questions like what the difference between an animal and a Pokemon actually is.
