Why do people keep thinking "Multiscale" is referencing scales as in fish scales? It's clearly talking about scale as in size.

It means that the scale/size of its defense is multiplied compared to other pokemon. It's not that hard to think about.

The original name for the ability is just a romanji version of Multiscale, and it doesn't imply fish scales at all. The translators aren't the ones who came up with the ability.
