How do you make your playthrough teams?

>Have an extremely hard time not doubling up on one or more types for my teams
>can't decide whether to only use new pokemon or blend in old favorites
How do you make your playthrough teams and what autism do you have about doing so?

I pick my starter, then I go through each areas encounter table in order and pick mons from there to add to my team, usually opting to add about 1 dude before each gym. As for restrictions, I allow some type overlap so long as there's no weakness overlap (For example, I've used torterra and gastrodon on the same team). For example, my team that I currently have planned for emerald:
>Torchic line
>Slakoth line
>Aron line
>Gulpin line
>Swablu line
>Baltoy line
Generally speaking this team has a nice mix of special bulk and physical bulk, as well as slow mons and fast mons. It's a little on the physical side offensively tho, might try to add some better special attackers.

The Bird and the Pseudo are always powerful choices, so I'm not gimping myself, and can be relied upon to not have completely dogshit designs
I usually don't bother coming up with a balanced team stat wise
I also usually pick up the regional bug to use as a temporary team member
