The game was mostly balanced around unfair wild Pokémon fights like 4v1 hordes or Alphas. At least it was more interesting than clicking Calm Mind a few times and steamrolling everything like in normal Pokémon.

The vastly smaller pokemon count meant they could squeeze more out of the ones that do end up appearing, and unlike all the other ones this one was the action-y one so game freak put in shit where pokemon directly interact with you and can be giant and threatening.

Play actual JRPGs anon. PLA has awesome overworld mechanics but outside of that and the Volo Giratina moment, it doesn't match up to other Switch JRPGs at all.
Basically, every retard shilling for this game over SV doesn't actually like the core Pokemon gameplay, and would be way better off playing other JRPGs. Start with SMTV.

I agree with every point but this one, I think it's a decent compromise for an action based boss. The only think I would have changed is to have the action fight first, and then a standard pokémon boss fight, instead of a mix of the two which just end up making the pokémon fight piss easy.

The problem is that SV should have taken the good parts of PLA and made them better. But it runs like shit and somehow the things it took from PLA are blatantly done worse. The lock-on in SV is extremely finicky, initiating fights by throwing a Pokeball at something feels way worse, the ride lizard feels blatantly worse to control although I will give them credit that climbing on cliffs is better. It's like they took a decent game and split them into two halves.

The DS Pokémon games looked good compared to their contemporaries, that were awkwardly trying to push 3D graphics on the DS where they really weren’t necessary. The GB Pokémon games were also totally unrivaled in scale on that hardware.

Kid, I lived through the 80's. Pokémon lagged behind established studios back in the 90's too (6 years it took to make Gen 1 and it STILL ended up looking as it did). It was always the concept that sold the world on Pokémon, not the graphical fidelity or presentation.

But don't mistake popularity for quality of production, because as shown, quality of production doesn't matter when it come to Pokémon. It didn't live or die on its visual presentation, but rather on the fact they made people give a shit about the creatures.

SV is better in almost every way in terms of being fun, the gimmick is balanced, no bullshit rules making you complete retarded pokedex checklists, three campaigns with an unlockable post-game, and a decently interesting endgame. I'll never understand how PLA troons can eat this slop up, they have the childish mindset that pretty graphix=good game, that walking around in an empty false advertised open world is somehow good, let alone FUN.

PLA is the only Pokemon game that I was not able to play for over 50 hours. It is just barren and boring after the final boss goes down because unless you're a Shiny hunter, which I am not there is nothing to do, and getting to the final boss is already a shitty chore since to 'Catch them all' you have to do boring side missions like Spiritomb's.

I think this shows how much GameFreak has mindfucked this fanbase. Legitimately, both PLA and S/V look like garbage, but because S/V ended up being a steaming pile of dog feces, Poketards have somehow gaslit themselves into believing PLA looked way better than they originally thought. I just began Alabaster Icelands, and my only gripe is how simplified the combat is. Stat changes affect both physical and special stats, abilities are gone along with held items, and the mastery move system is more interesting when the foe uses it.
Regardless, I have adored the game and cannot wait to see the conclusion.

To update this, yes, the graphics for the world are hideous. reaching a peak and staring out into a world of a dozen textures is very disappointing. However, I do think that the world design is never worse than fair, and the gameplay loop is entertaining.
