>>52939522I don't disagree with having an open world Pokemon game, but I know its just how the series is going to be from now on instead of just a one off.
Basically every developer ever it feels makes the same mistake IMO, when the average person says "open world" I think they really are just talking about some freedom of exploration rather than "giant empty grassy fields". That being said you posted a BW route and while I like BW, I don't think routes were it's strong suit. I'd much rather see a largely expanded version of what Hoenn and Sinnoh were trying to do, but that will never happen even if GF isnt just going to do open world from now on because kid's get lost on any route that isnt just linear path + maybe random side path for one item.
I miss the more complex route layouts, I miss optional areas, I miss actual caves that arent just small tunnels between zones. SV do provide lots of optional areas but the problem is there's really nothing to do in them, the series has gone all in on "capture pokemon" as the main, core gameplay element, with the other elements that made the older games greater than the sum of their parts have been left at the wayside.
Now, this isn't to mention that for a developer that has so many issues on the technical side, routes with relatively restricted paths and the ability to block sight lines to hide LOD / pop-in would be hugely advantageous, but we saw them fumble that with SwSh too (desu, I feel like every route since they abandoned tiles feels very small, lifeless, and samey)
Regardless, gen 10 will be yet another open world, with another obligatory desert, snow area near the end, etc. instead of having a region with an actual climate identity.
