The beaches in particular just look wrong with their weird overly-done patterns. They would've been the best targets for an actual flat and matte texture, but still end up looking like reflective plastic at certain angles like most other surfaces on top of their overdesigned dark and light patches
If I had the will I could keep writing but there's so many things that bother me about the game in a vacuum. At the very least, the game is kind of redeemable in that at least the artstyle is very cohesive and isn't trying to be a lot of different things like SwSh and SV were. It doesn't feel like I'm playing a different game between areas like how SwSh's wild areas felt entirely different to every route or how SV's kind of detailed areas completely clash with the Team Star assets and bases that are so underdeveloped it makes me stare for a minute
