The non-gym story is about learning the dog/Eternatus history, then the dogs appear to help you beat Eternatus at the end. You don't actually catch the version's dog until post-game.

same as cosmog but you are the one who has it and it's the first pokemon you get. it learns no attacking moves so you can't fight until you get your starter but it's your first pokemon because your dead dad left it for you. story is about finding out more about the pokemon via finding out more about your dead dad. kinda like you were arven.
it's about time the player character is actually a real character in the story and not just a blank slate moving the pieces of other peoples stories
