I've seen actual, good discussion on /v/. Never on this board, at least never for that long. The whole discourse around the 3rd legendary in SV turned into shitposting, Clover turned into shitposting, etc. You can barely discuss anything without some genwarring autist leaping down your throat.
The problem is that this board has just nothing to talk about and exhausts subjects really quickly, so you get a bunch of bored autists trying to stir shit in every thread possible. On /v/ this happens too to an extent, but the wider variety of topics and faster board speed ensure it's nowhere near as bad.

Bland game leads to bland discussion. Everything has been exhausted until the DLC announcement brings it back for about a week. Then the DLC hits, which leads to 2 weeks of discussion, then it dies down again until next year's game is announced while SV gets monthly raids and VGC seasons of little to no importance for the next 3 years.

I don't even think SV is necessarily a bland game. It's just that it's one game, and you have an entire board trying to focus attention on it nonstop, there is no game large, interesting or deep enough that can accommodate that much discussion for months, let alone years. There's a reason why /vg/ exists, and everything you could talk about concerning Pokemon is easily fitted into a general, a whole board at this point is overkill.

I'd say MMOs can do that depending on the amount and frequency of patched content.

The biggest reason why this board even exists is to contain the massive amount of hype threads that would've easily flooded /v/ whenever news of a new generation gets released.

Granted, I find the idea of closing /vp/ and moving everything to generals in other boards interesting (/toy/ already has one.) and more justifiable now then it ever has been, but how would the other /v/ boards fare?
How fast would a Pokémon General in /vg/ go?
How many will there be in /vg/ if spin-offs like Go and Masters had separate generals and would that count as flooding?
How big would the Pokégirl and Poképhilia image dumps in those generals be compared to now?
How many threads would flood the catalog of /v/ and /vrpg/ when news of a new Pokémon game strikes, let alone news of a new Pokémon or worse, a 2-part release like the reveal of Iono and Bellibolt?
Which board would obscure shit like the weekly Sunday variety show general go to?

That's very fair on MMOs, but even then Pokemon is significantly behind several MMOs in terms of consistent content releases that are on /vg/. True, Pokemon has more dimensions than the average MMO, what with the anime, merch, cards, but the games take up the vast majority of discussion here.
I think honestly though that the whole "this is containment so it doesn't flood /v/" is kind of a meh excuse now though. Elden Ring dominated /v/ much how Pokemon did back in the day, and even now, I think the tons of spammed threads on /vp/ made the hype for newer games look bigger than it actually is. Not to say a new release wouldn't flood /v/, but give this place a home on /vg/ and the Pokemon flooding would likely be a shadow of its former self. It helps that Pokemon isn't nearly as positively received as it once was.
Its not like there aren't clear cut avenues for the non-game people here either - /a/, /vmg/, encourage the coomer autists to go to /h/ or /e/ and not the uber softcore shit here.
