Poor lad. If anything, it's impressive how well he's managing despite all the shit he went through and basically raising himself.

Not super sure what Penny's problem is. She has trouble socializing, maybe because she had overprotective parents who coddled her too much?

Yeah, Arven is all kinds of fucked up. Probably the most normal of the trio, but has gone through so much shit at this point that it's a miracle he's still holding it together. Boy needs therapy and an adult who cares about him.

As for Penny, maybe social anxiety??? Would make sense given how she didn't even wanna speak to her friends face-to-face. Like, her fears feel a bit more extreme than just being shy.
