Ironically, they do not have all of the ingredients. The Switch is outdated hardware. I know there are a lot of Switch games people praise but on the whole, the hardware is pretty old compared to its contemporaries.

Also Game Freak is constantly under pressure to produce more, faster. It's not exactly a recipe for great creative flow, and yet, it seems they're still trying to be interesting judging by PLA and SV.

No one there cares enough anymore
>They're sick to death of pokemon, but it's the easiest meal ticket in the world, so they won't give it up
>Any new blood gets intentionally bled out inbetween games, so no good ideas carry over
>zero incentive to innovate since there's zero competition and anything they do (marketed as mainline) is guaranteed to sell over 10 million
>garners such low expectations that it gets accolades and praise just for showing up

At this point, Pokémon as a concept need to be redesigned from scratch, the GB game lineage has simply too much weight and flaws than just tweaking a few shit in it won't change much.
PLA was an attempt I guess, but it was a GameFreak attempt so they half-assed it as hard as possible.
Design time Anons:
Re-invent the Pokémon games, in a way that still roughly follow how shit happen in the anime/book/whatever, but otherwise with as little in common as possible with existing official games.

Yes.
And there are plenty of games which manage to do a fucking hundred more with it than GF does.
GF's game have always been on the low-effort side compared to other devs working with the same under-powered hardware, it's just getting worse over time.

So does your local burger-flipper, and he doesn't get a share of the most profitable franchise in the world to help him in his task.

Gameplay.
Not just the battle engine, but even all-out-of-battle taming aspect.
Dunno, when I was a kid watching the first season, I always hoped that being a Pokemon trainer would have shit like dealing with an asshole and uncooperative Pikachu, having to do some light vet work, actually teaching / training them and stuff.
Even back then I knew the GB couldn't do that much more, but each time a new generation was release it would finally make a big jump into making me feel like I was going through the same kind of adventure than Ash.

The GB games and their technical limitation just shaped everything afterward way too much.
So I dunno, I'm getting old but still I'm vaguely holding on the hope that some genius dev out there has thought of an actual worthy concurrent/re-imagining to pokémon that isn't just a variant of the GB games with a fresh coat of paint and a bunch of gimmicks removed/added, like all romhacks or ThemThem do.

They need to let the team that did PLA takeover and hire more competent 3d programmers. It's clear the team that worked on SV had no idea what they were doing.

There's so many little things that could have made SV amazing:
>more developed towns, enterable buildings
>more npcs that have sidequests like in PLA
>make pokemon 20% bigger
>shiny sparkles in the overworld (the shinies themselve need to be redone.)
>customizable dorm room
>full range of clothes
>full face and body customization

Compared to literally every other franchise most games come with this from the get go. It's embarassing what GameFreak sells as a game in 2022.

I thought PLA went in the right direction with more of an emphasis on the ‘research’ part of Pokémon, but that needs to be developed further than just ‘catch/fight X number of Pokémon’. E.g. in one of Pikachu’s Pokédex entries it states it uses its electric cheeks to fry berries before eating them. I’d like to see that happening in a game where Pokémon are doing what the Pokédex(es) say what their abilities are and how they utilise them in the wild.

I appreciate that your character can now wear all the clothes / hairstyles but the system is overall still a step back from gen 8. The fact you are locked into wearing a school uniform all the time sucks. And they have 90 year old “””students””” in the game, how come I can’t make my character look older or younger?

They should have made it so you could change your main outfit after beating the game / finishing all the classes. Hell, they could even make it so you changed into the school uniform whenever you went on campus.
