Same, during SM leak season I was seriously looking forward to it and was so hyped, but the actual game was disastrous. I disliked it then, I dislike it now.
There's no Zelda cycle with Pokemon, OP, you're just seeing people with differing opinions voicing them at different times, it's not just one person changing theirs.

I wish Selene could have been in the anime, because holy fuck it seriously boosted the Alola trio's popularity and amount of art and porn they get, they barely interact with each other in the games IIRC, they definitely didn't interact with Lillie. Selene gets such a pitiful amount of stuff compared to the other popular pokegirls despite being a protagonist, I also blame the fact she and Elio get awful redesigns in USUM for her underpopularity, splitting up the "canon" design is sure to shake things up badly, especially if it gets replaced with an inferior version despite being perfect from the start.

I remember back at XY the ''canon'' protagonist got hurt a bit because everyone was using customization left and right, but Y was in the anime in some way (calem didn't got shit)
with SM the protagonists got hit hard, usually at expansions they only get a different outfit but at USUM they feel like a whole different character
I'm still mad that they used the USUM design for that one animation special with lillie and the only time we got to see mizuki animated was at pic related
