Sinnoh thread

I feel like sinnoh get's a lot of hate these days.
We're coming off of the peak of the gen 4 nostalgia era when people who played DPP as kids became old enough to post here, so there's a sense of animosity, and that's understandable. Not to mention BDSP sucking ass.
But, personally? I really like sinnoh, mainly platinum, but I think even diamond and pearl had their place.
I don't think enough is said about how gen 4 is ultimately trying to be the spiritual successor to gen 2. Gen 2 really tried to be more than just an RPG campaign, it tried to create a world that promoted a gradual sense of progression while you spent your downtime doing the time based events and really getting comfortable and immersed in the world. Gen 3 largely removed this entire focus, and while I think it's good in an all new way, it undoubtedly did lose an inherent appeal that gen 2 had. Gen 4, by contrast, literally brought back all the major time based events from gen 2, adding them on top of the gen 3 stuff. The time system is back, but more than that, it also affects encounters, and you also have stuff like honey trees, the safari zone with it's changing encounter tables, etc. These sorts of features may be controversial but they play into a similar thing that the rarer gen 2 mons do. The reason they're so rare is because the player is expected to remain in the world for a long time, constantly interacting with it's more repetitious features like daily events. Simple stuff like slathering honey on a tree and then checking back 6 hours later, or waiting to get called about a swarm, is meant to be background stuff that adds to the gameplay loop. This, mixed with the jazzy laid back vibe of the Sinnoh region, creates a game that feels ridiculously relaxing to play. It's a long, and admittedly slow adventure, but that's just the sort of experience it's trying to be. Gen 4 takes the best parts of gen 2 and 3 and combines them into what is, for me, the ultimate pokemon experience.
