Ideas for challenge playthroughs

So I'm looking for a challenge but nothing overly annoying. Specifically I want a system where I'm constantly changing out pokemon on my team. The appeal of this is more for variety of pokemon instead of strictly just for a challenge. Anyone got any ideas for me?

And feel free to discuss any kind of challenge runs or ones you are currently doing.

I'm fine with permadeath actually because I want to keep switching my mons. I just don't want to be restricted with only catching one per zone. Again, my main goal is seeking pokemon variety not necessarily a challenge. Is there a way to constantly switch out pokemon other than random? Permadeath will help but I'm not usually losing that many mons so I fear that will only go so far. And the mons that don't die will just sit on the team, which is what I don't want.

I already do that in my normal runs. I am looking for something more systematic. I haven't been able to think of anything so I thought I would check here.

Put in a species clause then put in a gym to gym clause. Any pokemon caugth before a gym after beating it can not be used. again at all in the run. Then just don't have a one per route clause.

Forces you to catch smart and allows multiple catches per route. but if you get too greedy and catch maybe 8-10 pokemon before a gym you lock those pokemon from being used the rest of the run.

I quote like a randomiser run through. Never know what you're going to get with movesets or abilities either.
Occasionally you'll just come across something that's unbeatable for your team. Grinding is easier so a permadeath isnt too much of a stress.

After establishing a team, if any pokemon is +2 levels higher than the weakest 2 or 3 members of the team after a battle, it gets boxed at the first opportunity.
You cannot Withdraw those pokemon until its level is equal to or less than the pokemon in your party.

With some sort of exception for when you catch a new member for your party and they are under-level. idk

0 exp runs are really good for this. Basically you mod the game so nothing in the game gives experience, and the only way to progress is to catch ever stronger Pokemon. To really make it good, also append on the rule that you can't use two of the same Pokemon so you can't catch just 6 Pokemon to counter every boss. Leads to a bunch of fun strategies
