Because the first fighting designs actually have martial arts techniques in their concept, design, and execution. But gen 9 started shitting on that by making everything fighting type without a clear discernible theme behind it.

the hypnosis theme is very much a Psychic-type trait, if anything Hypno should be Psychic/Dark

Pawmot, Flamigo, Tauros, Slither Wing have no clear relationship to fighting type. Tauros has the bull fighting excuse but it's shoddy because you're not exactly fighting the bull but the opposite. People say crane style for Flamigo but they're completely different birds and crane style focuses on defense and counter attacks, which aren't reflected on Flamigo, who does mostly generic kicks (in the same gen as Quaquaval who also specializes in kicking).

Older gens have outliers too but gen 9 takes the cake. That said Keldeo is part of the musketeers and is thus within swordsmanship/fencing, while Passimian is shot put or ball-related sports (martial arts are grouped with sports in the Olympics).

It didn't start with gen 9 but it has the greatest concentration of nonsensical fighting types. It's like they wanted to reverse gen 8 where it was all pure fighting types. Design-wise, grab any other gen and compare it to gen 9, and tell me which group you can distinguish the connections to martial arts more easily and closely.

I actually like this thing as a pure water type. Picking up fighting stab would be nice, but it honestly is perfectly fine as pure water. It's not like it has the move pool to really take advantage of another type anyway. And beside, if you really want to be technical shouldn't it be part Flying since it's a superhero?

Grapploct literally has a dex entry that says it lives in the sea, is found swimming in the wild, learns 10 water type moves, is in the water-1 egg group, is based on an aquatic animal, and is only found on routes with water.
They had to have a collective brain injury to not make it water type. It's baffling.
