It also doesn't help when a lot of the rare Gen 2 mons that are locked to postgame or are rare or hard to find aren't even that great.
Like you can go out of your way for mons like Yanma, Aipom, or Sunflora, but they're not exactly great team members. Even certain postgame mons wouldn't be anything too crazy if they were available earlier, with how Misdreavus is largely on par with Haunter, and Magcargo is pretty outclassed as a Fire type.
Murkrow would probably be quite useful, though mainly because the other Dark type option is just Umbreon, or Sneasel in Crystal.
It's one thing to want to make the new pokemon rare so that they're more special, and in some cases like Tyranitar I think it works very well, but very few Gen 2 mons feel like they're powerful enough to really warrant how elusive they are.
