I remember some YouTube Clown did a randomizer nuzlockes where he faked something like a shiny legendary encounter as his first encounter for views, and this info got him busted because the randomizer at the time didn't randomize that encounter unless you edited it specifically. he was editing all the encounters so he would get good pokemon for his nuzlocke
that's how I found out. don't remember who it was though

Only zoomer revisionism considers Geodude, Zubat and Machop being common Pokemon to be "Kanto pandering". That's just how the games were designed up until Gen V. Certain Pokemon were common and fulfilled a constant ecological niche, and it worked because the idea was that each game built on the one before it.

Oi! No one ever faced stutter, crashes, low FPS, character warping, pop in, clipping through the ground or mass complaints.

its more like the other way around, Johtomons were crated to have niches diffent from Kantomons and as a results Johhomons lacked anything teh Game Freak felt would work as "early game fodder"

Hootohoot wouldn't work as a day bird, and all the other birds don't make sense as early encounters, Johto doesn't have a caterpillar-cocoon-moth Game Freak uses to highlight evolution so caterpie was reused. Though for the most part I'd argue that there's no reason Gen2 Pokemon couldn't have been use often in their own generation and the games and arguably the whole franchise most likely would have been better if Game Freak wasn't so afraid of Johto overshadowing Kanto.

I undestrand what the other post meant, but the interview quote is pretty clear that they would've made a mainly johto game, and only didn't because they couldn't fill those niches, which means any argument of "it doesn't matter that Kanto mons were more common, that was the always the plan" falls apart, because it WASN'T intended.

It's not the only second starter, just tue only time they make such a big deal about it. Basically every gen 4- game has at least one post-game set, gen 7 has Island Scan with 2 or 3 starter sets catchable, and gen 8 has the Bulvasaur/Squirtle choice in the early DLC, then Charmander post-game.
Ironically, this is the most well-known, but also the worst implementation of the 2nd starter.

This is more to do with how mega evolution was only for Pokémon from previous generations.
Your Kalos starters don't mega evolve, but these Kanto starters do!

In X/Y, only Pokémon from generations 1 through 4 could mega evolve, with exception to Diancie, the only gen 6 Pokemon to mega evolve.
OR/AS would introduce more mega evolutions, which included Audino, the only generation 5 Pokemon to feature a mega evolution.
OR/AS also introduced mega evolutions for Sceptile and Swampert, but not Blaziken which was given that privilege in X/Y; particularly as a launch window mystery gift including a hidden ability Torchic and holding Blazikenite.

Kalos starters having Megas would be too self-masturbatory. They've already made Kalos starters having better typing and stat distribution than Kanto starters in the base form, in special, Delphox has basically Charizard stats but better distributed, it was the last starter with a 534 BST before they made all starters have a plain 530 BST.
