you have my sympathy if you're playing a pre-gen 6 game but if you're playing anything after gen 6 where shinies are laughably easy to get then get fucked. At worst, You'd only need to spend another hour to catch it gain

If I'm out to catch stuff I just use technician breloom with false swipe and spore, it's pretty consistent aside from lucky wakeups into stuff like explosion or whatever and against grass types.
