Why is the Champion timeline fucked in the anime

>Lance Kanto Champion
>Lance is an E4 in JN
>Lance is Kanto/Johto Champion now
>Steven normal trainer in AG for some reason
>Wallace Champion in DP
>Steven Champion in XY
>Alder Champion BW
>Iris suddenly Champion in JN

Lance was never said to be the regional Champion in OS, he was the champ of the Elite Four. It wasn’t until between the end of the previous PWC season and end of the current that Lance finally became a Champion.

It's weird, like regional champion status isn't static or something. Like things happen in the background, Wallace and Steven being rivals and going back and forth on who's champion, Iris training her monsters enough to beat Alder, or Lance being champion while also being the leader of the E4 it's madness I tell you

Anime did their own thing for nearly 2 decades, then corporate mandate changed when JN came out, now they had to have "synergy" with the games, completely gutted the unique gym designs like Erika's gym, replaced Surge's appearance to be in line with the games and even have him completely removed in the actual episode in his gym, and then redid characters like Iris who had no desire to be the Champion in her original appearance in BW and made her Champion.

It’s their fault that they wrote Iris like dogshit in the BW anime (as they did for everything else in the BW anime, no other generation anime has ever been nearly as awful)

The anime has its own timeline, it is for this reason that you can have BW Bianca coexisting with BW2 Cheren or characters like Lilie interacting with 10yo Misty (In the games Misty would be an adult like Red in SM)

Well, that's not really a fucked timeline, they just did the opposite of the games where Steven is the champion and then he gets dethroned by Wallace. In the anime Wallace was the champ and got dethroned by Steven

>Iris suddenly Champion in JN
They did mention in JN that Iris defeated the previous champ to become the new champ of Unova
