>PLA is only “good” because it came after almost a full decade of bad games. In retrospect it’s just alright, but definitely still fun. However, the graphics are unforgivable, the world is empty and devoid of landmarks, and the music is shockingly bad at points. Why the fuck are there so many bad synths in Restoration Japan
>Dynamaxing was a good concept with terrible execution, as seems to be the pattern for the games nowadays. Massive Kaiju fights honestly seemed like the endgame for Pokémon from the start, but the way they decided to do it in reality was by adding a retarded fart cloud at the top for everyone and kneecapping normal designs for special forms. Very bad, could’ve been much better
>Most megas are badly designed. The only ones I would say are genuinely good (sometimes even fucking awesome) are Beedrill, Mawile, Sceptile, Charizard Y, Gengar, Banette, Mewtwo Y, Abomasnow, Ampharos, and Absol. Almost all of ORAS megas were unnecessary, most of XYs were, and the gimmick was already bad from the start due to how it forces teambuilding around shillmons if you want to use the gimmick. It is also a crime that their existence as a gimmick permanently locks many of the best designs out of being used in any future game, forever stunting the few shitmons that got something good for once.
>BW > BW2. The latter is probably “””objectively better”””, but I really dislike the added handholding and how most of the campaign goes through the same areas as BW with next to no change to them save for maybe gym interiors and themes (Castelia City was especially jarring in this regard). The old pokemon’s sprites also really stick out against the new- you can tell many of them are simply tweened gen 4 sprites- and I think it makes the game as a whole feel slightly bloated and less cohesive.
>The only generation of mainline games without a dip in quality is gen 5. I say mainline because almost every single one of its spin-offs is complete shit lmao
