I always thought the complaints for sky battles were blown out of proportion. okay, I can get why people would complain that a handful of mons like Xatu and Skarmory don't have animated wings but people act like sky battles ruined all flying types. I don't understand why the idea flying type pokemon flying during battle makes people so asshurt

It's mostly just the ones that magically hover, they've have a decade to fix those, so there's no excuse. Of course, I think some pokemon like Xatu and Skarmory do look better standing instead of flying.
