If you haven't already read them, Hard Enough and Borne of Caution are great SI fics. Hard Enough even updates Bi-weekly, so it's always updating.

Aside from those two, I've also been enjoying Platinum Pirate. It's a One Piece/Pokemon crossover where Lucas, who's become the champion of Sinnoh, has been thrown into the One Piece world right before the Straw Hats reach Alabasta. Give it a shot, you might like it.

I believe that a few of the names are translated weirdly, namely Zoro is translated as Zolo as well as a few other weird bits like that. If your okay with that, I think it's pretty alright. YMMV.

Just thought of another one: When is a Spoon a Sword? It's a journey fic with a female Ralts starter who wants to be a swords master. Fun premise, the trainers Pokemon have distinct personalities, pretty good fic all around.

Yeah so Yamato, one of the important side characters in a recent story arc is the daughter of a pirate in One Piece. In the story, she idolizes a male character who was a hero in the country she lives in. Because she idolizes him, she calls herself the son of that hero (not gonna go deeper than that, that would be spoilers).
And since the modern internet is fucked, they'd be a lot of screeching if they don't call Yamato a boy, so the official translators use male pronouns for her.
If that's a deal breaker, I'm not sure what fan translations use female pronouns but I'm sure there are some around.
Honestly, it's an issue when you get deep into the story (about chapter 900 or so) so I wouldn't worry just yet.

If your looking for some classic fics, The Game of Champions (currently dead), Traveler (Semi-active) and Pedestal (Complete) are all older fics that are some good journey fics. If you haven't checked them out I highly suggest you give them a shot, they're all really good:

Also, if your looking for a good fan comic/doujinshi, theres Festival of Champions, a great tournament comic. I think the author is working on a prologue (chapter 0.1, 0.2 etc..) so just start from chapter 1 and go back to the prologue later.
