I do feel like who ever was in charge of the models (human and pokemon) messed up big time. The humans look uncanny (especially the trainer classes) and the pokemon feel like they were designed in 3d first.
If they just hired good 3d designers or went back to designing pokemon on paper first and then making the model (no matter how tricky it gets) it would be more cohesive and visually pleasing. The biggest problems with GF is that they first: do not retire staff who have overstayed their welcome (can't do 3d programming or design), they don't promote and hire enough new talent, and they do not want to give adequate development time because of the merch/anime. Now, Japan doesn't retire or fire senior staff so this will never change, but they could let their new competent staff do more and implement new ideas (PLA was a big step in the right direction). They could also focus on making the anime longer with more complex story and actual character development and making more merch of the current/previous gen. Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk.
