Those are fair points and I agree that it was dumb but I think I understand it what they were going for. Its essentially the a less strict version of what FRLG did (locking none Gen1 Pokemon out until the postgame). Except instead of actively preventing new evolutions, they simply didn't go out of their way to add the things needed for the new evolutions, hense why you can still evolve evolve lickiting, tangela, aipom, yanma and piloswine

I prefer Platinum. I used to think it was Emerald but the story gets pretty tedious.
Silver was my first game. I've never replayed it. I've played Heart Gold twice I don't like pokemon variety in the wild and the trainers. It's better with a randomizer that ups everyone's level and changes their pokemon.
I complain and get annoyed at the lack of post game content but I have never actually finished any post game content. I always just restarted the games.

Yeah. 7 of the gyms have repeats. None of the Platinum leaders have any. Lance obviously has repeats too.

Because they aren't the same Pokemon. Pidgey and Pidgeotto have different stats and movesets, they provide different challenges to your early game team.
