Smogon sets aren't made for top players, though. They're made for the average 1100 - 1500 ELO player. Pros use different sets unless the Pokemon in question only has a handful of actual moves, like Spectrier or Regieleki.

I want to like series 2 because it's the format I'll need to play if I ever get back into irl events but holy shit, you basically have to bring a clear smog/haze user as an insurance policy against dondozo+tatsugiri, plus the addition of paradox pokemon (flutter mane specifically) means the meta is centralized way more than series 1

Not a single one of the top cut teams in San Diego regionals had Murkrow, including the team that won. The Liverpool regionals similarly had a lack of Murkrow (even if the team that won had it)-only 2 teams in the Top 8 had it. And before you claim that the team that won did so because they had a dedicated Dozo counter, the 2nd and 3rd place didn't have Dozo OR a dedicated counter to it at all. Maybe this is the difference between open team sheet vs. standard random matchmaking, but it doesn't really seem like Dozo is some unstoppable force, just a common on that's a consideration to a team that's being built like any meta-relevant mon.

There are regionals in the Smash Ultimate scene that don't have Aegis/Steve/Kazuya/Min-min/Sephiroth in top placements, but no pro player would consider them less than a top threat.

That doesn't really work given there was still plenty of Dozo in top cut and, similarly, teams that didn't have a mon dedicated to beating it. All that'd be is mediocre players taking out mediocre players that then get taken out by the top players, which isn't exactly a circumstance that Dozo warps to any capacity.

These were two tournaments (one of which was livestreamed on Pokemon's main channels) with 500~ players each, not exactly small.

It's one of the best mons in the tier but I wouldn't consider it worthy of direct counterplay other than just having something that can hit it without dying to SE Gigaton or Play Rough. It's sorta like Lando T but Lando T's Choiced sets are immediate threats while you have to let Tink set up for it to be a danger.

Most rule clauses, minus the infinite battle and OHKO clauses, are from actual Pokemon games. Sleep clause was a thing since before Smogon, and it's more necessary than ever..

My 2 cents.
The last Pokemon game I purchased was Leaf Green.
The last Pokemon game I bothered to pirate was Black 2.
However I have been playing on PS since then whenever a new game is released, moving on after a couple of months when it gets boring.

I am surprised no C&D has been issued yet, because I am not a unique snowflake and I'm sure the very existence of PS hurts the sales in a significant way. It's just too convenient and free.

Ignoring how a fuckton of on-cart comp players use PS anyways for practice/tentative teambuilding, the comp scene for Pokemon is absolutely fucking miniscule compared to the greater consumer base. The most watched competitive content on Youtube is (contrary to popular belief on here) VGC oriented by way of Worlds VODS and Wolfe Glicke's videos, but you can bet your ass that the vast majority of the people watching that shit haven't touched a single ranked ladder game in SV, or any gen prior for that matter.

Showdown is unofficially sanctioned by TPC. They allow it to stay under a few caveats (most are unknown as far as I'm aware but one is 'no mobile client' and they weren't allowed to implement Hisui mons properly until SV came out). Nuzlockes are NOT competitive content in any sense of the word, there's a pretty fucking massive difference in PvE vs. PvP in literally every context in which the two are compared. Competitive content isn't EVER gonna be the most popular Pokemon stuff overall, which is why I made the distinction in the first place

Sleep has not been a problem in game since Gen 7. Between Terrain, Safety Goggles, Grass type powder immunity, and the fact sleep only lasts 1-3 turns, you can get around sleep with any balanced team. If you team is sleep weak, it's a problem of your team, not the game.

There's plenty of tiers that don't replicate on cart shit and would theoretically allow them if implemented (ie randomized game modes barring randbats, various hackmon tiers, or even nat dex) but they got treated as defacto gen 9 mons by Smogon. Wolfey got big recently (within the past year and a half, really) because he started interacting with a lot of other big YouTubers. AlphaRad, Pokemon Challenges, Jaiden Animations, RT Games, etc. He does videos where he helps them git gud at Pokemon, hosts tournaments, and etc, and it causes spillover from other YouTubers.

That and he's been doing pretty good content since Scarlet and Violet were announced. He's almost doubled in subscribers since the announcement.

Magnezone is too slow even with scarf to be all that viable in the current meta. It gets outran by Chien-Pao even with 252 Timid and Scarf. Specs is okay, but it's not really lacking in power (it's one of the top 10 special attackers in the game due to the cuts). It's lacking in coverage due to no more Hidden Power, and it's lacking in speed and longevity.
All Specs really does is let it handle Gholdengo better, but what that amounts to is turning an 84% chance to 2HKO into a 100% chance to 2HKO. Gholden Boy is still faster and kills Magnezone back before it can kill the cheese.

In-battle bugs only get patched out if they cause a desync or game crash. Except for acid rain for some reason, I think it's the only non-game ending bug that's not emulated.

I don't think the concept works on an offensive build like this, too many OU threats blow holes in this easily. I feel like a balance build to defensively backup the grass+electric core so they can focus on breaking would be better.

Fairy and Fight resistances, so it counters Iron Valiant. Many teams are very weak to it otherwise.

Speaking of Ting-Lu, isn't this a bit too much for OU to handle?
It's bulkier than Giratina and it's nowhere near as passive because it has a very good ATK and dual STAB, plus hazards and Whirlwind. Ruination is also such a good move on it, it can punch holes into entire teams so a lategame sweeper can clean house later.
Dark/Ground isn't the best defensive type but it's not bad by any means, with plenty of useful resistances, 2 immunities and no 4x weakness.
Nearly all the OU bans have benefitted it since most of them, plus the inevitable Chien-Pao, are mons that target its weaknesses (Flutter Mane, Palafin, Iron Bundle, Annhilape).

1. 6v6 singles is the intended format. It's what the series was designed around.

3. Game Freak has never been good at balancing. See: Gen 1 Tauros, Gen 2 Snorlax, Gen 4 Garchomp, and so on.

That has nothing to do with how much damage Lando's EQ does. Lando almost never uses Earthquake since it is much better off clicking a utility move like U-turn or Knock Off. It'll EQ when it needs to do 40% to something, but otherwise it's there to be a bulky pivot that removes items and sets stealth rock.

Speaking of "Who's the best VGC Player" has anyone ever watched Ray's videos? Like, holy fuck they are the most boring shit ever. The dude simply has no charisma at all. You are five minutes in in any of his videos and the fucker hasn't said anything out of value and worth and mostly just reads out stats from Pikalytics. No music, no good edition, no animations, no nothing. Just a little square with his face on his corner and that's that.
It took me like 2 hours to watch one video of his the other day because of how BORED I kept getting.
I hate to say it too but he also looks like a wojak and it's really distracting.

All Lando sets run EQ you dumb fuck. Many Pokemon DO stay in to chip it down. Lando so rarely uses EQ that you can safely stay in and predict the U-turn/Knock Off. Now that Lando's moveset is in tatters, you'll see far more offensive sets, but in Gen 7 and 8 it almost always ran utility sets since unboosted 145 base attack isn't that impressive anymore.

I wouldn't know who to say is the true biggest "pure" competitive channel but I do agree with you that Aaron's the best for VGC. It's simple, clear and to the point. Showcases lots of teams, both Western and Japanese, a small explanation of how the team works, and then just a few matches.
The only downsize is that you keep finding shitters all over using whatever team he used on his last video. Rentals were a mistake.

He's not makig a "top 10 coolest new SV mons!!!", He's makig "Top 10 strongest new mons" or "Top 10 tera types" or whatever, and then explaining his rationale through the lens of a VGC player. Assuming he's averaging 50k views a day (70k per video, videos almost every day). That's $35k to $50k a year. It's enough to subside on as a guy in grad school in his 20s, but not something he's going to make a solo living on long term. It fills Swampert's role as a bulky Ground type pivot.

Libero nerf hurts, but it isn't game changing when Cinderace's best set has always been its free as fuck pivot set. 370 speed will be a lot better when Chien-Pao gets banned. At that point the only things that really outspeed it are Dragapult and Meowscarada, and of course +1 Pokemon like Quaquaval, Espathra, and Roaring Moon.

Meowscarada is absolutely not better. The only thing it has over Cinderace is Flower Trick letting it keep Dondozo and Garganacl in line... sort of. Meow's 110 attack stat leaves a lot to be desired, and Pyro Ball is better against everything that isn't boosting defense and/or weak to Grass:

Rock is like Ice, great offensive type, bad defensive one. But Garga is as Bulky as TTar, has serviceable attack, a ability which makes it immune to status and gives a ghost resist and ridiculous attack which puts it's would be best checks/counters on a timer.

funny thing about wish passing is that it focuses on the HP stat of the mon that uses wish. So if you use wish on luvdisc and switch to blissey, blisey will only gain about 10% hp back
