>>53089174Gen 1 and 2 had gambling and optional secrets (kanto postgame hardly counts), 3 had contests, gambling, secret bases, optional secrets, and battle facilities, 4 had gambling, underground/bases, contests, battle facilities, minigames, postgame area/content, and optional secrets, 5 had optional secrets, (a) battle facility (towers and standard tower clones don't count), optional secrets, postgame areas/content, and minigames, 6 had minigames galore, minimal but still there postgame content, and optional secrets, 7 had minigames, postgame content, and optional secrets, 8 had... raids, and 9 has... raids, a single minigame, and korok stakes. The bountiful possibilities of an open world console game and they both have the least to offer.
>>53089227No, I would say BotW offers little reward for your discovery, but lets go with that example. In botw your reward for going off the "beaten path" and exploring is stuff like snowboarding games, finding field bosses, quests with semi endearing characters, a once in a while cool shrine challenge. Those are things people consider "discovering", not finding the intended routes for the intended areas to do the intended tasks.
>>53089238You're right, just like SwSh and SV. Glad we could find some common ground anon :)
>>53089291You're not wrong, but compared to what came before and what they could have done, gen 8 onwards pales in comparison. The prospect of an "open world" is meaningless when it feels less dense and interesting than even gen 1.
