Let's imagine a world where Pokemon doesn't exist in any way, shape, or form. What would change about society and pop culture? Would the anime industry in the west be as big as it is now? Would Nintendo release Project Atlantis instead of the Gameboy Color? Would Game Freak even still be around?

Yes. The anime boom would probably have happened later but i don't think much would have changed in this regard.

Pokemon is just a small blip in the timeline. Pokemon have minimal, if not zero, influence in politics. I don't think anything big will change if they don't exists

Digimon was actually hitchhiking the popularity of pokemon for some time. Just like how people like to read Tensei Shitara Slime but want to read alternative isekai mangas once in a while. Without Pokemon, Digimon would not prosper. I still remember how first Digimon console games aren't as intuitive as Pokemon does. So the only Digimon related things that I enjoyed at that time were the anime and the tamagochi game.

Alot of /vp/oreons, myself included, end up being completely different people entirely due to circumstance.

Gamefreak would be remembered for snes/genesis games that I can't even remember the name of.
Oddly enough a couple of music tracks still exist in rough forms, due to other games that Masuda composed for.

nothing really, but it's likely there would be a replacement mainstay of culture, unfortunately likely one from the west

yes, because of final fantasy 7

i doubt it, the gameboy was old by then already and they'd really want to advance with the tech far beyond what the gameboy could handle
