ALL Megas are gone, not just Ash-Greninja. It would be weird for them to not bring back Megas yet allow Primals and Ash-Greninja in. Were people making threads asking why GF hates Primal Rayquaza when Dragon Ascent's effect didn't allow it to Mega Evolve anymore in Gen 8?

Because Ash isn't going to be in the anime anymore. Once he's gone, they don't want a connection to the "old" anime. So they retcon it so next gen, new kids aren't asking what an "Ash-Greninja" is

And then after giving Ash a special snowflake form that's equivalent to a Mega, the writers failed to consider that the executives were still going to force the "Ash has to lose the League Tournament or else the anime has to end" mandate, which just ends up making said special snowflake form laughable.
