Garganacl is a bitch ass nigger but it's not THAT hard to deal with. Chien is a great mon with lots of usage but not broken. I'd rather them banning Espathra for being cheesy/uncompetetive or whatever.

Garganacl has few actual counters. Less even if it uses Tera. It's immune to status and will always resist Ghost, so it has plenty of Tera options that let it deal with Dondozo and Meowscarada.

Pao is absolutely broken, more than Chi-Yu ever was.
It outspeeds EVERYTHING except Dragapult which is weak to both its priority STABs for starters.
Tera Band Crunch 2HKOs at worst everything in the tier including resists, so absolutely nothing but certain scarfers, priority users or strategic Terastal mons can check it.
Tera Blast Electric beats all of its "checks" if you run HDB.
It's not that squishy either, 80/80 physical bulk is respectable.
Its defensive type is not that useless, it has key resistances that can be exploited.
Pao is a premier wallbreaker, revenge killer and sweeper all rolled into one. No other offensive mon in the tier can compress all offensive roles in a single set and excel at all of them at once.
Chi-Yu is a nuke, but 100 base speed means it either wallbreaks or runs scarf and Overheat can't be spammed as much as Pao's STABs, plus it has no priority.

It hits significantly harder than Barraskewda using Liquidation when it runs Wave Crash. If you calc it, Floatzel's low rolls deal like 3 - 5% more damage than Barraskewda's high rolls.

570 is not bloated. That's less than minor legends like Zapdos or Uxie. That's less than shitmons like Metagross or Goodra. Having a higher than average BST does not a blob make. If you called, say, Mew, or other such Pokemon with amorphous stat totals like Arceus or Glalie, a stat blob, that would be far more accurate.

I don't run them on the same team but I've loved using band dragapult and sharpness gallade in VGC. In series 1 i didn't even need to use jolly on dragapult, just instant high offense with few normal types to block a phantom force

Bored out of my mind and it wandred to comp, so I'm gonn type out some changes I'd make to the past 3 generational gimmicks if they're ever to return in an official capacity

The stats gained now scale with the initial BST of the mon. For example, if a mon had less than, say, 500 BST, they'd get the full 100 BST boost, but if they had 600 BST, they'd get a heavily reduced BST bump of only around 10. This forces the already "strong" Pokemon getting Megas to take those optimal stats from an actual place they'd miss then rather than becoming nonsensical statblobs. If Mega Metgross still want its' 145 attack, 105 special attack, and 110 speed, it'll have to eat into it's HP, Defense, and Special Defense to do so even with the points afforded to it, whereas Megas like Audino and Sableye won't have to suffer. This also further pushes the "Megas as an alternative rather than straight updgrade" angle Kalosfags desperately want you to believe applied for more than a small handful of them.
>Z-Moves
When a Pokemon holding a Z-Crystal swaps in, the type of cystal it's holding is announced. For example, you swap Heatran holding a Grassium-Z in and the text "Heatran is a giving off an intensely verdant aura!" shows with an accompanying visual.
>Dynamax
Max HP bonus goes from 2x to 1.5x, ALL stat boosting Max Moves are capped to 100 BP in the BEST case, and Gmaxes are now given the option to use their Gmax moves alongside normal Max Moves. After they Gmax, another prompt like the initial DMax one shows up with a new symbol. Selecting it will allow you to hen use the Gmax move for the corresponding type of move that turn However, you can only do this ONCE. This change is gonna require a mass rebalancing of G-Max moves overall (the Kanto trio's moves literally only need to be used once to get max value in their current state, so cut their duration down to 4 turns, for example), but I think it'd be overall healthier.

This. Also the rise of Dark types in general has really, REALLY hurt it, and frankly, I think the introduction of Dragapult ensured that it'd never be OU again, since it outclasses it in so many ways

Honestly, even with that in mind, I'm inclined to think SV OU is just a way more fun tier than SSOU or even SMOU were at this time in their lifespans.

There's a lot of really cool shit you can use and abuse, as seen by the sheer diversity in tour games. Comparing this and SS OU at this same point is like night and day

Bottom one, easily wins and I can tell you why

I was sitting and thinking about what kind of dragon you could bring to a trick room team since most dragons are just so fast and it kind of struck me.
How would a min-speed Haxorus work? Lets you put a bunch of stats into it's bulk/defenses instead of speed, will always underspeed Hydreigon because of it's natural 1 lower speed than Hydreigon and if you then also slap Brave on it with 0IV speed leaves you at 91 speed - which sure, is still fast for trick room but if you're facing a non-trick room team, you're most likely going to underspeed all of them. I guess you could also just bring a min-speed, Brave Dragonite since that technically underspeeds as well but it's so common. I like the idea of using Haxorus because Life Orb 252+ Haxorus using First Impression on Hydreigon is always a guaranteed kill unless they're very, very bulky or they tera. Which they might not do if they know stats and realize there is no scenario where Haxorus outspeeds a Hydreigon unless it's choice scarf. Haxorus's natural absolutely monstroud attack would also work well with stuff like a Bronzong so that it can levitate and you have ground coverage without only the use of Earth Power on like, Torkoal.

Idea behind the team is that you get up Rocks with Druddigon, chip everything with Talon/Drudd/Tang, and muscle through with one of the three sweepers. Ideally, you go Bisharp>Cloyster/Empoleon. AV is on Tang to tank at least one hit from Gengar and Knock it, Helmet on Drudd is to punish the shit out of Wak, and Wisp is kinda free into this team.

NP Golduck can still win but it's much harder

There was a Smogon pet mod that implemented this mechanic.
The issue is certain Mega Stones were clearly much better than others.
I agree that all pokemon should be allowed to Mega evolve but the overall mechanic needs an overhaul.

Maybe, but haxorus should be seeing use in series 1 for hyper offense. Scarf breaking swipe with mold breaker or unerve is really good team support. Plus bulldoze and eq with moldbreaker are great. Unerve puts an end to haban berry shenanigans. Lastly Tera steel iron head on scarf is awesome with that attack Stat. I imagine a set of adamant, enough speed investment to out speed max speed drag and the rest into attack and bulk. Then breaking swipe, dragon claw, iron head, bulldoze/earthquake.

Unfortunately this gets a little out classed with the introduction of roaring moon in series 2 but it still hits like a truck and can run double dragon next to top options like, dragon, Moon, noivern,( and Gyarados).

The real difference between them is that typing. Fire/Dark is just superior to Ice/Dark. Sun is also a better weather than Snow, and the weather boost lets Chi-Yu bust through even Blissey, whereas Chien-Pao struggles with Dondozo, Garganacl, and tera Skeledirge.

The only type weak to both Fire and Ice is Grass. It'd still be weak to Flying, Bug, and Poison in that case. You could use it to add resistances to an already decent defensive type, but most defensive Teras are into Steel or Water, and they both resist Ice while Water also resists Fire.

Turning it into a Flying type could be a decent idea. It'd only be weak to Electric and Rock, it'd resist Fighting, Bug, Grass, and Fire, and it'd be immune to Ground. Steel resists/is immune to all the types that are SE against Appletun, so that's an obvious choice, but it makes the Ice resist from Thick Fat rather redundant. You could honestly make good use of a Ripen set with one of the boost berries to get a +2 stat boost if it were Steel type.

Appletun makes do with Leech Seed. It's just not that threatening of a Pokemon with base 100 SpA. It could use +10 to Def, SpD, and SpA. It'd be a genuine threat in the middle tiers if that were to happen, since it'd have the bulk to back up its Leech Seed recovery and enough SpA to threaten out more defensive Pokemon, especially with Apple Acid lowering their SpD.

I'll add this to the competitive discussion: I use chien pao on my team straight up over chi-yu because of the prevalence of dragons in the meta game and the easy access to powerful priority.

Garganacl on the otherhand, may as well be a shitmon. he is meant to stall out and get value from salt cure but in the lethality of ubers he just gets heemed instantly most of the time. he is not viable at all.

I know this means nothing for OU suspect tests, tbqh i think gargancl is quite annoying in OU

Garg still has other moves than Salt Cure. Most usually run Iron Defense/Curse and some other attacking move, usually Body Press. You can no-sale the DPS from Salt Cure, but it'll still cause you huge issues since it's a Water type with strong recovery and the defensive chops to set up properly.

Band needs icicle spinner/crash + crunch + sacred sword or else it doesn't work as well. Ice moves are needed for pokemon like great tusk, dragonite, and all the tera faries out there. If you don't run that stab you'll be giving them free turns which can lose you the game. Psychic fangs won't ohko great tusk and tera fairy skeledirge (if defensive) for example will be impossible to beat without your ice moves. Sacred sword is needed for Kingambit and most importantly opposing Chien Paos. Then you've got that last slot which you can give to psychic fangs but then you lose priority moves which means you lose to things like dragapult and boosted valiant. You can definitely run it if you really want to lure Tauros but there's a big cost to that

Well with Terastal not being banned it's obvious we have to deal with the mons that are pushed beyond the edge thanks to the mechanic, it's either one or the other.
Since Tera is staying then every mon that is broken thanks to it will be eventually banned.
Note that it's a problem that is mostly inherent to OU. In UU and below Terastal doesn't make or break things as badly as it does in OU, suggesting that while the mechanic in itself is balanced for the most part, certain pokemon become broken thanks to it.
Regieleki when it's released is another such case since it's utterly broken with Tera Ice and will most likely be banned.

Dondozo is the only thing standing between the tier and getting assfucked by all the physical sweepers. Without 'dozo you suddenly have Roaring Moon, Quaquaval, Ceruledge, and Dragonite become huge problems. Dondozo is a cornerstone Pokemon that keeps the tier safe

I find it funny when people complain about bulk in SV OU when there's like 100 things that can break any defensive core. You didn't even mention stuff like Banded Baxcalibur which 2hkos fully defensive donbozo on a tera dragon glaive rush. Adamant Icicle crash also 2hkos fully defensive tera fairy dirge and you can probably just flinch it to death anyway

Honestly yeah. I've even been laddering with stuff like Specs Glimmora and Mixed Valiant and it's hilarious how if you play well, Dozo and Dirge aren't that hard to break. Frankly if anything I'd say the most worrying shit rn is offensive stuff. I legitimately think the likes of Offensive Tusk/Chien Pao/Volcarona/Kingambit are some of the hardest mons to check right now outside of the obviously broken Chien Pao and Garga. There's a lot of really potent and really scary offensive mons rn

Seriously, CC Great Tusk is fucking hilarious. You get a spin off with it once and it practically guarantees either a kill or extremely heavy chip.

I think that's because it's in that same state of "good, but not broken" that it was in SS OU. It's really good, don't get me wrong, but unless people start running really weird sets on it, it's not something that can reverse 6-0 with the right moves/Tera like Garga/Chien Pao/other broken shit have. Each set has their own unique issues holding them back
>Physical basically DEMANDS that you Tera and by doing so you lose the ability to pivot into a TON of shit
>Specs is good but still has the same power issues as before and Ting-Lu/Kingambit being so common is really awkward for it
>Boots Hex is probably its most consistent set but it runs into power issues and the fact that Garga basically cucks it forever

Yes. At the end of the day Chien-Pao can fulfill too many offensive roles at once, from wallbreaking to revenge killing and even outright sweep.
It's not that it's unbeatable, but as long as it stays there is little reason to explore other offensive mons like Baxcalibur, Lokix and TTar.

Almost always, yes. With Freeze Dry, the remaining types that resist Ice are Fire, Steel, and Ice itself. 2/3 of those get hit by Ground type attacks for SE damage and the last remaining type is the worst type in the game.

Sub Kyurem with the right match-up can pull that off. While earth power isn't stab(unless terra'd, which is a waste on the sub set) it hits hard enough. I like terraing fairy to lure dragons thinking an easy KO, even if they predict the tera. Dragons that run steel/poison moves are non-existant and with the new type you are set.
