>>53107953Try to not just follow a pre-established build for a pokemon. Use them as a guide at best. Figure out what your pokemon needs to do in the team, then figure out what are the threats it will face (usage stats help here), then which of these threats you can deal with, which ones you can't, and build your pokemon from there.
Figure out speed first, who you want to outspeed/underspeed. Then move to defenses, which hits you want to live (prioritize hp over def/spdef). Then move to attack, how many evs you need to OHKO or 2HKO something this pokemon is meant to check/face.
Weight each stat differently, if you're playing Breeloom, Meowscarada, or Flutter Mane you don't really need to prioritize defense over offense. Finally, figure out some common flows. I.e., if you see a Murkrow (prankster tailwind) or Indeedee/Armarouge (trick room) what's the best Turn 1 your team can do against it?
This is the best way to actually know what your team can do, instead of running into a situation and having no clue what move to use, or if you survive.
