I think the anime and TCG are aimed at kids, some of their apps as well. I think gamefreak tried too hard to appeal to kids in gen 6 as well thinking it was their prime audience but were obviously mistaken and have been upping the appeal for teens-young adults in the games again.

This is absolute nonsense. Pokemon was very very obviously made with children as the largest target demographic. Games for adults don't tend to have the self-insert protagonist be a 10 year old boy.

Kids are willing to put up with arcane or incomprehensible bullshit. They don't even notice that its a thing.
Adults though, demand that things be quick, clean, and clear. They "don't want their time wasted". They, "don't want to be confused".
